last weekend.

Last weekend we stayed at the cutest little inn. The kind of place where they keep fresh chocolate chip cookies on the front desk and have garlands of lights hanging in the courtyard. (Tornado, allergy, and frizzy hair season...yay. ;)
We got up early Saturday morning and went to the temple to do some sealings. (While talking to the other couple in the room, we realized that the husband and I were from the same home town and graduated a few years apart. Small world!) Ben and I took a walk around the grounds when we were done and were amazed by all of the colors!
After leaving the temple, we met some friends at the botanical garden to walk around (free for residents Wednesday & Saturday mornings, ps!) and loved spending time in the sun.

We ended the day by chowing down on pizza with friends, getting a workout in, babysitting, and some lesson planning for Sunday.

At church on Sunday I was called to serve as the secretary in the Relief Society presidency (still a Primary teacher, too, ha!) and Ben lost a Young Men's counselor. Besides that, not an eventful day. We lounged around with friends and partook of a delicious lasagna. ;)

Weekends are undeniably the best.

Easter + General Conference.

This year on Easter Sunday we were fortunate enough to be able to hear from our church leaders at general conference. Ben suggested we dress up in our church clothes and head over to the church to watch it with our ward there. (Long story short, we drove over to the church but ended up having to watch it at home in end.)

During the break between sessions we decided to go for a walk around our neighborhood and into the park close to our house. It was such a beautiful day and it seemed like everything had come to life that weekend; the flowers were blooming and the little buds on the trees decided to make an appearance. Symbolic for Easter Sunday!

After watching the afternoon session of conference, we threw some ribs on the grill and made dinner for my family since they pulled into town that night. It may not have been your classic Easter dinner, but I'd take baked beans and ribs over ham any day! (We're kind of lacking in the tradition department over here...although I suppose that's something that will come along with kids.)

P.S. Ben and I don't do Easter baskets for each other, but we've gone to the store a few days after Easter two years in a row to each pick out a bag of candy that's 75% off. That's a tradition, right? ;) I just keep telling myself that as I eat my $1 bag of Cadbury eggs. (Clean eating starts up again tomorrow. I can hardly bear to think about it, ha.)

If you missed general conference or want to figure what in the world I'm talking about, check it out here and click on "sessions," "speakers," or "topics." I'm excited to watch and read the talks again over the next few months, but my current favorites are this talk, this talk, and this talk.

Check out Alexa's adorable women's conference printables! I love them all and can't wait to tape/hang/pin them up all around our apartment.

Jenna from Mom, the Intern wrote a really great post about Sister Wixom's talk on Sunday and summed up a few of my thoughts on encouraging light much more eloquently than I ever could. It's well worth the read, regardless of your religion.

in which i pretend i can do crafts.

Being a crafty person isn't a talent of mine.  It simply just isn't in my DNA.  (However, I do think I make some pretty mean cinnamon rolls, so that can be my redeeming quality.)  After a quick trip to Michael's last night for a few little supplies I needed for a Primary thing, I came home with some paper flower embellishments (only $2!) that I was dying over.  I'm itching for warmer weather, and the yellow and orange spoke to me. ;)  After hot gluing them to a piece of cardstock paper and throwing it in a frame we got as a wedding gift, I'm going to chalk it up as the cheapest, easiest craft there ever was.  And put it out on display, of course.

special occasion.

Happy Sunday to you!

I don't know about you guys, but with the weather warming up and the seasons changing (officially, that is, next week!), I'm feeling the need to brighten up my wardrobe and our little apartment with all of these fun colors!  Plus, isn't that swimsuit just to die for?

(Disclaimer:  I understand these are not necessities. Just wants. :))
